Mandatory Insurance
The health insurance (LAMal) is mandatory for all residents within 3 months of arrival. The vehicle insurance (liability, art. 63 LCR) is mandatory for all motor vehicles. Accident insurance (LAA) is mandatory for employees. Certain cantons require fire insurance for real estate. Private liability insurance is not legally mandatory but universally recommended. Reduced health insurance premiums are available for low-income individuals (art. 65 LAMal).
